So long, March!

This is always a busy month for us, so I haven't updated here much. You are about to get overloaded in the next few days to make up for it! The kids' party was today, so once I collect all the best photos from that, you can see them ASAP. Here are a few images of a pretty happy month for the Osbornes...

The day after Valentines Day, I started the Spring mantle, but it took me a while to make and collect things I liked without it getting too Eastery. I did make that banner, and then I found pre-made ones at like 3 stores. Oh well. I was pretty happy with my painting this time around, and I just love the little green bunny from Michaels!

We had a sick little birthday boy this month, but he still enjoyed his small celebration we had on 3/18.   He didn't care much for the cake, but that's OK because it wasn't all that good. A certain mother of his thought that smash cakes would be in stock at her local grocer, and they sure aren't. Anyway, Larkyn dumped an entire bottle of sprinkles on this heinous one and we lit 13 candles. Problem solved.

No more blonde! I've been highlighting my hair since I was 14 (so, 10 years ago), and the cost of the upkeep finally caught up with me once I had 2 kids. It's funny, I have always identified as brunette and thought that's what other people saw too, but everyone seemed shocked at the difference.

Hooray for getting my family outside!  Lakyn is a total outdoor kid, and I was nervous about her first trek to the cemetery with the scooter. But, she did great. Seriously, this scooter is the best gift for any kid old enough to ride it.

Happy rest of the month!  Let's not forget that there are still 2 days left, March 31st being the best day of the year (when I turn 25).  Peppa and George Pig party pictures to come. And, no I am not really turning 25, but it is getting to that point where I think I stopped counting.

Rhys is one!!

{Written on 3/17}
It is pretty surreal that one year ago, I was packing bags, my mom was picking up Larkyn, and we were calmly headed to Riverside to meet our baby boy. We stopped at Piada for dinner and bought Matt a new set of headphones...for some reason I remember those little details.

We settled into our room and met our nurse, who was going to be with us till Rhys was born (or so we thought). Several hours later, and many CNN breaking newsflashes about the missing airplane (and an anesthesiologist who kept giving me her conspiracy theories about the plane secretly landing and a colony of people beginning without our knowledge), still no baby.

After a pretty boring and uneventful night, still no baby. Both of us were doing fine, but my phone was filling with "So...?" and "Hope all is well..." texts. At 12:25 pm, Rhys finally made his entrance.

Those few days in the hospital were such a snugglefest!  I was on love, just like my friends told me would happen with a baby boy. He got to meet his sister (who pulled the emergency cords twice in the bathroom), his family, and we got to go home 2 days later.

Loves: Being held by mommy and daddy, yogurt melts, naps, bath time
Dislikes: Being put back down after being carried! He's in a clingy phase. The carseat still. Being sick (we are OVER IT!)
New skills: Walking! Rhys walked at the end of February, and does a mixture of walking and crawling to get where he wants to go.
Adventures: Flying with mommy to Atlanta-->Charlotte and Charlotte-->NYC-->home was an adventure for sure. He got to see our whole family again and celebrate turning one with cousin Henry! Unfortunately he was sick again, so he was pretty miserable the entire time.

This year has been so special with Rhys. He is a quieter, more sensitive kiddo than his sis was when she was tiny. He wants to be held more, get s little shy around new people, and loves to sit and observe. He lived in three houses in his first 4 months, and has adjusted well through it all. We just love him!

Smashing!

I have so much to share, and luckily am on Spring Break to share it. Over the weekend, Rhys and I flew to Charlotte to celebrate two very special birthday boys. My Godson (and great nephew) Henry turned ONE on 3/8 and Rhys (Henry's mama's Godson) turns ONE tomorrow (3/18)!

In the interest of saving money and practicing my photography, we tried to do our own cake smash pictures. With an audience of grandmas and dads, we all decided that the video outtakes would have been much more entertaining. They would've included screams, snot, tears, balloon eating, and dogs.

Here are some of my favorites...

Snow days and shooting in Manual

I got my DSLR five years ago. At the time, I was amazed with its 12 megapixels and Aperture priority mode. It gets the job done in outdoor light, but indoors, I have been pulling my hair out trying to get crisp pictures of the kids. Because they never stop moving, it is quite a challenge.

So, I have been trying to dig deeper than the various modes and I refuse to use the flash (if I ever do, I turn the photo black and white!) I have been experimenting with Manual mode and plan for a 50 mm lens in my near future. I honestly just use trial-and-error and it is getting old. But all these days indoors and the white light outside gave me some opportunities this week...

party invitations went out this week.
my "office area" is coming together
excited to have a place to switch out pictures often
 our backyard in pink light
It is so hard to get his eyes nice and clear and then when I do, there is noise everywhere else. Help!
Why does he wear PJs every day? Because he pulls everything else off and it's too cold for that!
getting ready for nap time by playing dollhouse
OK, this one was finally clear because I had tons of light and she was perfectly still.
I finally got her to play in the snow and she loved it!
For approximately one minute, until her hand "got wet" and then it was over
He loved bath time all by himself today. No one to dump water on him and take his toys...
 We love a clean baby
Part of the Easter mantle. The rest of the picture keeps coming up either noisy or blurry...so that will have to wait
Some amazing hand-painted REAL eggs my mom got me a few years ago
I painted this one day and actually really enjoyed it.

So, there we are. Suggestions?  Lessons, I know. I took about a billion and these were the best I got. Why do I have to pick between a blurry, noisy, or too dark photo?  WHAT WILL FIX IT ALL?!
