Rise and Shine at Beechwold Diner

There are a few times of the day when we divide and conquer the kids. Conquer = give them undivided attention and do something they want to do. A few weeks ago, I took Larkyn out to breakfast at the closest diner, The Beechwold Diner on Indianola.

I read reviews before I went to get a feeling for the atmosphere and check out some menu favorites. I was nervous because I read one about a "regular" crowd and how it is hard to fit in. I did not encounter this at all, and we felt right at home.

We went at 10 AM and there were 2 groups waiting ahead of us. For less than 5 minutes, we waited and asked 547 times what the gumball machine does. Soon, a table was cleaned and we were given a booth.

Our server was friendly to both of us and we could have easily picked 20 different options off the classic menu. But, I had read about the cinnamon roll, and that is Larkyn's favorite....so one cinnamon roll and one "Big Breakfast" because, well, it's a DINER and I want it ALL.

The food was awesome (especially the home fries!) and our server perfectly timed a carryout order to take home to the boys. Her cinnamon roll had cream cheese-like frosting, which was so good. It was warm and not hard, like almost every other one we order. The bacon was crispy and the scrambled eggs were perfectly scrambled dry, as I requested.

I noticed there are high chairs and the bathroom is very accessible (and huge) for kids. There is not room for a stroller as it is one long room, so leave that behind. We recommend the cinnamon rolls and home fries, but really everything in the Big Breakfast hit the spot. For a casual, fun breakfast out with the kids, give it a try!
