Mothers Day in Cbus

Mom. Mama. Mommy. Whatever you call her, or whatever your little ones call you, she is important. Moms are important, and I love that society puts aside an entire day in honor of motherhood, even if it doesn't require spending money. Of course, every family celebrates in a different way, from homemade breakfast in bed and giving her some peace and quiet to laid-back family cookouts to a day out on the town. To each her own, and I personally enjoy a little of all the above!

Here in Columbus, there are so many ways to celebrate mom in a special way, so let's get planning...

Other family-friendly ideas that don't require reservations...
  • A family bike ride (especially if it involves ice cream)
  • Picking out plants and planting a garden together
  • Visiting any of the Metro Parks together for a walk
  • A day trip (we love Yellow Springs!)
  • Making pizza together

Gifts

She might say she doesn't want anything, but...she'd love something. Here are some of my favorite local ideas:

Lily Noelle- I get so many compliments on my unique Lily Noelle necklaces, and Heidi even makes mama and mini sets!  Check below to win a set of your own.

Red Giraffe- I could just walk around for an hour, picking up each necklace and sighing as I put them back, finally having to decide on one handcrafted, delicate piece. A gift card to Red Giraffe would give mom the chance to go pick out or even have something hand-stamped in the shop.

The Jones MarketWell, I think it's clear that I have a healthy accessory habit. The Jones Market necklaces are my go-to pieces to tie together a casual outfit. The chocolate single strands are the perfect starter piece, and now Candis is making tees (goodbye, paycheck).

JRJ nail polish- I got my first pedi using this polish 11 days ago and it is still flawless! Pick up a bottle to pair with some flowers for the perfect thoughtful gift for mom. Better yet, give her a few hours to go get a nail service at one of the salons who offer their polish.

They even have "No love like Mom love" tanks that are adorable!

State and Arrow flowersMom might just cry if she wakes up to a sweet mason jar overflowing with spring blooms. You can find Adriah and her Bouq Bar with these pretties at Chelsea Borough Home on 5/7 at their Mom's Day Off event.

Columbus Food Adventures Tour- In my opinion, the perfect gift is to give mom an experience. Easily order her a ticket to a food adventure tour to some of Columbus' finest restaurants, coffee roasters, taco trucks, or even breweries.

BrigadeirosSanto Brigadeiros makes gorgeous and decadent Brazilian treats sold right here in Columbus. They are hard to explain, since they are so different from anything you've ever had. They are made with condensed milk in flavors from coconut to peanut butter and dulce de leche. I LOVE the coconut ones! Email Cris to order a box of her favorite flavors, and if you're lucky, maybe you'll get to share!  See below to win a box of 4 brigadeiros.

Planthropy- Every time I use our kitchen sink, I smile at my cute little succulent in the window. Jessie's up-cycled containers are classy, and the plants inside are an adorable way to decorate any home or office.  She is featuring these 6x6x7 planters for $50 if you order by May 1. Check out the full line-up and where you can find her treasures while you are out in Columbus.

Goodmakery- We visited Leslie to create our most treasured Christmas gift ever, and she has all kinds of fun lined up to create for moms (See the event dates and times in the graphic below). The technology is pretty amazing!  Dads, grandparents or caregivers can bring the kids in to create a personalized gift for mom with their own handwriting. Check out the giveaway at the bottom of this post to win one of the pink candles with a necklace inside.

Auburn and Ivory Creative- I have one of Meredith's gorgeous wooden calendars in my house and would love to have one of her handprinted family trees. They start at $25 and should be ordered before May1st. Email her at mabdiamond @ gmail.com to get one started. And if you'd like to win the beautiful spring rain print, enter at the bottom of the post.

Elmer Conceptions- I just love these little portraits and can't wait to have one hanging in my house one day. Send a photo of your family and Amanda will modernize it with watercolor and ink, starting at $50 for a family of 4. Contact her to buy a shop credit so that mom can pick out exactly what kind of portrait she would like.

Tees! As a mom, I like to dress up every now and then, but usually I just like to throw on a cute tee shirt. There are so many companies I adore (and that may serve its own post), but I teamed up with Christa from My Ohio Adventure to bring you a giveaway for the casual, adventurous mama in your life. See below to win a shirt, koozie, and sticker.

Brunch

I invited Caroline from Columbus Culinary Connection to guest post in her area of expertise: Food! Nothing spoils mom like a brunch that she doesn't have to cook herself. Here are a few options for every budget. It should be noted that I have had the 101 Twinkie and it is legendary. Thanks, Caroline! Go check out her blog for fabulous food reviews and recipes...
For a traditional brunch that the whole family will love, book a table at The Barn. This Cameron Mitchell spot is serving up a bounty of dishes, ranging from eggs benedict to peel-and-eat shrimp, plus two carving stations. The enormous patio in the back also boasts cozy chairs, its own bar, and multiple fire pits to gather with your crew afterwards.  Hurry though, because reservations are filling up fast!

A Columbus classic, check out Lindey’s in German Village for an upscale and satisfying dining affair. Lindey’s is offering a buffet as well as a special a la carte menu for the occasion, so you have the best of both worlds. You can gorge yourself on dishes like beignets or a Monte Cristo with maple blueberry jam, mother-approved!
Give mom the gift of a unique and tasty experience at Zen-Cha.  The lady in your life will adore sipping every variety of tea under the sun.  Nibble on plump Chinese dumplings and Earl Grey pancakes, or order the miniature scone sampler to share with the table. Brunch doesn’t have to be fussy to be beautiful and scrumptious.
Treat the special mama in your life to a slice of heaven at Dough Mama. The inviting Clintonville bakery is the ideal place to nosh on savory low-key treats such as seasonal quiche, fruit hand pies, and bread pudding, all paired with Thunderkiss coffee. Best of all, every mom that comes in the door gets to take home a free slice of pie!

If you are a procrastinator like me, some of the fancier spots might be booked before Mother’s Day creeps up on you. 101 Beer Kitchen to the rescue! Seating is first come, first serve, and there are Dublin and Gahanna locations. My mouth is already watering over the 101 Twinkie, a pastry cream- stuffed take on French toast and the pretzels with beer cheese. For the craft brew-loving mom, this should be your pick.

Giveaways

Some of the lovely makers above have offered their products for the special lady in your life (or yourself, we won't judge). Enjoy!
